Pokémon TCG Pocket has won Google Play’s Best Game of 2025 for delivering the most polished and authentic digital take on the classic trading card game.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has been crowned Google Play’s Best Game of 2025.
Announced as part of Google Play’s Best of 2025 awards, the free-to-play card battler topped all other mobile releases this year thanks to its painstaking recreation of the physical Pokémon TCG – from tearing open packs to collecting beautifully illustrated cards rendered in high fidelity.
Google said the game’s “thoughtful touches” and faithful attention to detail helped bring the 28-year-old franchise “into a new era,” earning it the platform’s highest gaming honour.
Pokémon TCG Pocket has been one of 2025’s breakout successes, quickly climbing download charts and introducing millions of new players to the fundamentals of deckbuilding, battling, and trading.
The title’s blend of nostalgic appeal, short-session play, and generous onboarding has also expanded the Pokémon TCG’s reach beyond traditional hobbyists, with The Pokémon Company continuing to support it through regular themed drops and digital-exclusive card variants.
Google also highlighted its broader vision for Play as an ecosystem, not just an app store, noting that innovations like unified gaming experiences, improved discovery tools, and richer rewards programs have helped elevate standout titles like Pocket.
Other major winners include Hank Green’s Focus Friend for Best App, Luminar for Best Multi-device App, and Disney Speedstorm for Best Multi-device Game.
Rounding out the games categories were picks such as Dunk City Dynasty (Best Multiplayer), Chants of Sennaar (Best Indie), Disco Elysium (Best Story), and Wuthering Waves (Best Ongoing).
With Pokémon TCG Pocket now earning one of mobile gaming’s biggest accolades, the title appears firmly positioned to remain a cornerstone of Pokémon’s digital strategy going into 2026.
