Arrowhead boss ‘trusts’ Justin Lin to do justice to Helldivers movie

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani says he “trusts” director Justin Lin to lead the Helldivers movie despite fan concerns over his lack of gaming experience.

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has thrown his full support behind Justin Lin as director of Sony’s upcoming Helldivers movie, telling fans to “let Justin Lin work his magic”.

The Fast and Furious filmmaker’s appointment made headlines this week after The Hollywood Reporter noted he leaned into his outsider status when pitching the adaptation, framing it as a strength rather than a drawback.

While that approach impressed Sony, it sparked scepticism among some Helldivers 2 players, who flocked to the official Discord to question whether the director should at least play the game before tackling its universe.

One fan even asked Jorjani if they themselves could direct the movie instead – a request the Arrowhead boss shut down immediately.

Jorjani then responded to a second user urging the studio to make Lin try the game.

He said: “I trust Justin. He did a great job on the Star Trek movie.”

It’s a stance consistent with Arrowhead’s wider philosophy.

Earlier this year, Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt said the studio shouldn’t have final say over a film adaptation because “we are not Hollywood people, and we don’t know what it takes to make a movie”.

Still, Lin’s vision appears to have won over the people who matter most at this early stage: the studio that built Helldivers and the team footing the bill.
