Fable ‘could come to Nintendo Switch 2’ as well as Xbox, PS5 and PC

Playground Games are reportedly considering releasing Fable on Nintendo Switch 2 as well as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Fable could reportedly make its way to Nintendo Switch 2 at some point.

The upcoming adventure-RPG – developed by Playground Games – was reintroduced in a major way during Xbox’s recent Developer Direct, where Microsoft confirmed an Autumn 2026 release window for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, and showed extended gameplay for the first time.

While Fable is firmly locked in as a day-one release on Xbox, PS5 and PC, a potential Switch 2 version remains unannounced.

The speculation comes from Xbox insider Jez Corden, who said on social media that a Switch 2 port is “under consideration,” though not currently in active development.

According to Corden, discussions are still at the “logistics” stage, suggesting that technical feasibility, performance targets, and release timing are all being evaluated rather than any firm commitment being made.

If the port goes ahead, it would further underline Microsoft’s increasingly platform-agnostic strategy.

In recent years, the company has brought more of its first-party titles to rival systems, with PlayStation releases already confirmed for several former Xbox exclusives.

A Switch 2 version of Fable would be another notable step in that direction, especially given Nintendo’s historically limited access to large-scale Western RPGs.

Playground Games has recently spoken about the responsibility of reviving Fable, a franchise that has been dormant since 2018 and absent from mainline releases since Fable III in 2010.

Studio co-founder Ralph Fulton has said the reboot is built around three core pillars inherited from Lionhead Studios – those being a freedom of choice, a fairytale tone, and a distinctly British sensibility.

Those elements, he argues, are essential to preserving the series’ identity.

He told IGN: “Those things combined are for us the DNA of Fable. If you don’t hit those things, if you’re not true to those things, you’re not making a Fable game.

“So, that was something that we decided right at the start.”
