OpenAI joins with Snowflake in 200m USD partnership for enterprise AI

OpenAI and Snowflake have struck a $200 million enterprise partnership to embed advanced AI models into Snowflake’s data platform, enabling thousands of businesses to build secure, governed AI agents directly on their proprietary data.

OpenAI and Snowflake have announced a $200 million, multi-year partnership aimed at bringing advanced generative AI directly into the heart of corporate data operations.

Under the deal, Snowflake will integrate models from OpenAI – including GPT-5.2 – into its Snowflake Cortex AI platform, making them available to more than 12,000 customers worldwide across all major cloud providers.

The move reflects growing demand from enterprises eager to deploy powerful AI tools on top of their own proprietary data, without sacrificing security or governance.

At the core of the partnership is a push toward so-called AI agents.

By combining OpenAI’s models with Snowflake’s data infrastructure, customers will be able to build custom agents that can query structured and unstructured datasets using natural language, perform actions across applications, and automate complex workflows.

These agents will run natively inside Cortex AI, allowing organisations to work with familiar tools such as SQL while tapping into large language models behind the scenes.

Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said the collaboration would allow businesses to “build and deploy AI on top of their most valuable asset” – their data – using a platform they already trust.

He added that pairing enterprise knowledge with OpenAI’s models enables agents that are “powerful, responsible, and trustworthy,” a recurring theme as companies grapple with AI risk and compliance.

Governance is a key selling point, as Snowflake has said OpenAI models accessed through Cortex AI will operate under its existing controls.

This includes Snowflake Horizon Catalog for responsible AI, alongside business continuity and disaster recovery protections backed by a 99.99 per cent uptime SLA.

The companies also plan to roll out new features built on OpenAI’s Apps SDK, AgentKit, and APIs to further streamline enterprise use cases.

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between the firms, as OpenAI already uses Snowflake internally for analytics and experiment tracking, while Snowflake has deployed ChatGPT Enterprise to boost employee productivity.
