Fox announces Stewie Griffin Family Guy spin-off show

Stewie will premiere on Fox during the 2027–2028 season, and will be on streaming platforms Hulu and Disney+.

Stewie Griffin is getting his own TV show.

Fox and Hulu have ordered two seasons of a Family Guy spin-off focused on Peter and his wife, Lois Griffin’s flamboyant and eccentric baby.

The first batch of episodes is set to air on Fox during the 2027–2028 season, and streaming the next day on Hulu and to international audiences on Disney+.

According to Deadline, the synopsis for the 20th Television Animation-produced series – titled Stewie – reads: “In the offshoot, after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enrol in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line.

“It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject.

“Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable … until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”

Family Guy’s creator, Seth MacFarlane, 52, will return to voice the cunning Stewie, as well as serve as executive producer for Fuzzy Door, alongside Kirker Butler, 55, and 58-year-old Kara Vallow.

In a statement, Seth thanked Fox for the “incredible opportunity” before he joked: “I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show.”

Kirker – who is also the showrunner of Stewie – added: “I am honoured and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation, and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television.

“I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”

Stewie marks the second Family Guy spin-off series, with Seth and Kirker having worked on 2009’s The Cleveland Show.

It followed single dad Cleveland Brown (Mike Henry), a single dad who moved to Stoolbend, Virginia, with his son, Cleveland Brown Jr. (Kevin Michael Richardson), to start a new life with his high school lover Donna Tubbs-Brown (Sanaa Lathan), and her two children, daughter Roberta (Reagan Gomez-Preston) and son Rallo Tubbs (Mike).

The Cleveland Show ran for four seasons on Fox before it ended in 2013.

Family Guy first aired on Fox in 1999, and after it overcame an early cancellation, it has broadcast new episodes since 2005.

The show follows the dysfunctional life of the Griffins – Peter (Seth MacFarlane), Lois (Alex Borstein), Chris (Seth Green), Meg (Mila Kunis), Stewie and their smart dog Brian (Seth MacFarlane) – as they navigate a life full of crazy scenarios.

Family Guy has recently marked its 450th episode.
