Brian Austin Green changed his name, but why?

Brian Austin Green has explained why he changed his name as a young actor.

Brian Austin Green changed his name in order to join the Screen Actors Guild.

The 52-year-old star has revealed that he adopted a new middle name during his younger years because he didn’t want to clash with another young actor called Brian Green.

During an appearance on Pod Meets World, Brian shared: “My mom had a whole name planned for me when she was pregnant and I had really broad shoulders as a baby, so she had a real hard time in labour. And my dad, who smoked a lot of pot at this point in life, while my mom was in the middle of labour, he came forward and he was like, ‘Can we name him Brian?’ My mom was like, ‘Name him whatever the f*** you want, just get this kid out of me.'”

Brian’s parents ultimately decided against giving him a middle name. However, that became a problem during his early days in Hollywood, when SAG informed him there was “another Brian Green in the union”.

He explained: “Brian Green is not a very easy name to come up with a middle name for where the whole thing flows very well … So we went through a bunch of names, and we ended up going through the map and Austin fit.”

Despite this, Brian has never actually come into contact with his namesake since making the switch.

The actor added: “I wished [for] his demise when I was younger, when I didn’t realise what all that entailed and I didn’t realise that was a terrible thing to wish upon anybody.”

Meanwhile, Brian previously admitted that the success of Beverly Hills, 90210 changed his life.

The actor starred on the hit TV show between 1990 and 2000, and he recalled his sudden rise to stardom.

Speaking on the Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Brian said: “They came up with this brilliant idea of doing these summer episodes. So when all the other shows went into reruns, we had new original shows. So when kids were out of school, they had something to watch that was brand new.

“Everything changed within like a week and a half, two weeks.”
