New Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro has been “blown away” by the potential of the Fortnite crossover.

The new Walt Disney Company chief, who took over from Bob Iger this week, has given an update on the progress being made on the upcoming Fortnite x Disney project.

Speaking during the company’s annual shareholder meeting, he teased: “I was blown away by the possibilities.”

Details about the collaboration are being kept under wraps, with very little known about the project.

When they originally announced the pairing, Disney said the crossover would be a “new persistent universe” for Disney fans to “play, watch, shop, and engage with” their favourite characters, as well as content from brands like Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and Avatar.

Disney and Epic have revealed fans will get to “create their own stories and experiences” to share with their friends.

Meanwhile, D’Amaro – who has long pushed for Disney to explore gaming more – recently gave more insight into what the future could hold.

During a recent Q+A, he said: “It’s not just gonna be one character. It could be a new film premiering there, it could be the place that you decide to book your next cruise vacation. You could participate in the Super Bowl in some way there.”

When he was announced as the new CEO last month, Disney praised his combination of “leadership and innovation”.

Disney chairman James Gorman said: “Josh D’Amaro possesses that rare combination of inspiring leadership and innovation, a keen eye for strategic growth opportunities, and a deep passion for the Disney brand and its people – all of which make him the right person to take the helm as Disney’s next CEO.”

And D’Amaro was previously chairman of Disney Experiences, which covered video games and other consumer products.

He led the company’s $1.5 billion investment into Epic games, which covers the Fortnite project.
