Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have been planning their nuptials since they got engaged in August 2023.
Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel’s wedding guests will be those who “actually love [their] friendship and love spending time with [them]”.
The 47-year-old TV personality and the 46-year-old actress have been sorting out the arrangements for their big day since Jonathan popped the question at Edinburgh Castle, Scotland, in August 2023, and now Jonathan and Zooey’s plan is to have a small guest list.
He explained to People: “I’ve sort of entered this phase of my life now where I’m realising there are a lot of people around you who… you put way more effort into the relationship than they do.
“People who I find I’m constantly asking if they would like to go out, if I make plans, would you like to join? And they don’t reciprocate.”
The Property Brothers star continued: “I think we have decided we want to be around the people who actually love our friendship and love spending time with us. So, I’m OK with the idea of something intimate that’s just the people who really care.”
Jonathan admitted that he and Zooey are too busy “living life and enjoying the moment” to finalise any other details for their wedding.
He said: “At some point, we’ll figure out a date and a location and all that stuff, but we haven’t done it yet.”
Nailing down a location for their special day that meets the high quality of Jonathan’s interior designs without breaking the bank has been a challenge for Zooey – who announced their engagement a week after she confirmed her divorce from 53-year-old film producer, Jacob Pechenik.
Appearing on a December 2025 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, host Alex Cooper, 31, asked Zooey: “Are you wedding planning?”
Zooey replied: “Yes, but it’s really like a lot of pressure because he designs incredible spaces, and I’m like, ‘There’s no space worthy of such a wedding.’
“It’s really hard to find that’s not like a gazillion dollars.”
The New Girl alum previously tied the knot with Jacob in Austin, Texas, in June 2015, and singer Ben Gibbard, 49, in a venue reportedly by Elliott Bay, Washington, in September 2009, with their divorce coming three years later.
Jonathan was married to Kelsy Ully from 2007 until 2013.
And a memorable wedding is a must for Zooey – who has daughter Elsie, 10, and son Charlie, eight, with Jacob.
The Elf cast member said: “We’ve both been married before, right?
“So, I’m like, this [wedding] has to be the most fun.”
In December 2025, Zooey said that she and Jonathan are “not in a rush” to walk down the aisle.
The Merv actress explained: “We’re not in a rush because we’ve been together so long, so it’s not like we’re like, ‘We gotta get married.’
“I’d rather find the right place and situation, so that it’s really special and fun.”
