John Mulaney ‘lightened the load’ amid Olivia Munn’s cancer battle

Olivia Munn has explained how her husband helped her through her cancer battle.

John Mulaney’s humour helped Olivia Munn to navigate her cancer battle.

The 45-year-old actress – who was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in 2023 – has credited her comedian husband with lightening the load during her darkest moments.

Speaking on CBS News, Olivia said: “There’s no better person in the world to me than my husband. He is — I mean, you’ve met him. He wanted to come to every single doctor’s appointment.”

The Hollywood star explained that John, 43, managed to lift her mood during her most difficult moments.

Olivia – who married the comedy star in 2024 – added: “He’s got his notebook that he writes all of his ideas for jokes and anything that comes to him through the day. You know, having the humour to go through it and having someone who is so funny, it really — it just lightens everything.”

Olivia explained that when she was “faced with the possibility of death and not being here”, John’s presence helped her cope both physically and emotionally.

The celebrity duo – who have two children, Malcolm and Mei, together – went public with Olivia’s diagnosis in March 2024, after she had undergone extensive treatment following a positive test result in early 2023.

The actress – who previously dated NFL star Aaron Rodgers – wrote on Instagram at the time: “Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice. I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry. My focus narrows and I tabled any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay clearheaded.”

Olivia’s treatment included a double mastectomy, lymph node dissection, reconstructive surgery, a nipple delay procedure, an oophorectomy and a partial hysterectomy.

While she once considered quitting acting altogether, returning to work ultimately proved to be part of her recovery.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times newspaper in 2025, Olivia explained: “I did feel insecure, but each time I did it, I felt better. I’m so grateful for my body because it got me through this.”
