The White House and Anthropic are still in communication, despite ongoing issues.
The US government and Anthropic have held “productive and constructive” discussions.
The meeting took place shortly after Anthropic released its Claude Mythos preview, which can supposedly outperform humans at some hacking and cyber-security tasks.
The White House said in a statement: “We discussed opportunities for collaboration, as well as shared approaches and protocols to address the challenges associated with scaling this technology.”
The US government also revealed that the two parties – which have previously collaborated on high-level government and military work – “explored the balance between advancing innovation and ensuring safety”.
By contrast, US President Donald Trump previously hit out at Anthropic, accusing the AI firm of trying to “strongarm” the government.
The billionaire businessman wrote on Truth Social: “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL NEVER ALLOW A RADICAL LEFT, WOKE COMPANY TO DICTATE HOW OUR GREAT MILITARY FIGHTS AND WINS WARS! That decision belongs to YOUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, and the tremendous leaders I appoint to run our Military.
“The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution. Their selfishness is putting AMERICAN LIVES at risk, our Troops in danger, and our National Security in JEOPARDY. (sic)”
Trump added: “I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again! (sic)”
