LG Display has showcased a flexible OLED robot face concept alongside new power-efficient laptop and automotive display technologies at SID Display Week.
LG Display is eyeing the future of robotics with a new bendable OLED screen concept designed for humanoid robots.
At SID Display Week – held from May 3 until May 8 at the Los Angeles Convention Center – the Korean tech giant unveiled a robot head prototype featuring what it calls a “Humanoid Display”.
It is a curved OLED panel wrapped around the robot’s face.
The concept uses the company’s flexible P-OLED technology, which allows screens to bend while remaining thin and lightweight.
During demonstrations, the display showed off several potential uses, including greetings, battery updates, weather information and sleep mode notifications.
LG believes the technology could eventually be integrated into other robot body parts and even function as a touchscreen interface.
The company also highlighted the durability of its P-OLED panels, claiming they can operate in temperatures ranging from minus 30 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius, making them suitable for a wide variety of environments.
Interest in humanoid robots continues to grow as more companies explore machines designed for workplaces and homes, and LG sees display technology playing a major role in their development.
However, P-OLED panels remain more expensive than traditional OLED displays.
Beyond robotics, LG continues to promote P-OLED as a solution for next-generation automotive displays.
