Sir David and Victoria Beckham’s daughter Harper, 14, has been dealt a blow in her bid to build a beauty brand after her application to trademark the name Hiku By Harper was rejected in the US.
Sir David and Victoria Beckham’s daughter Harper has reportedly been dealt a major blow in her bid to build a beauty brand.
Harper, 14, is planning to follow her famous mother into the beauty industry by launching her own company called Hiku By Harper but a new report suggests she’s suffered a setback after officials at the US Patent and Trademark Office rejected plans to trademark the name.
The Sun newspaper reports the decision to block the application was made because the name Harper is already licenced for the sale “brooms and scrubbing brushes” while Hiku has been registered by a company selling “fragrance and toiletry products”.
The publication reports the name has been given the green light in the UK.
The Sun previously reported Harper is planning to launch Hiku By Harper as a skincare and beauty brand inspired aimed at young consumers and inspired by Korean products.
A source told the outlet: ” Harper loves fashion and make-up and has already started doing make-up tutorials. The plan is to create a brand aimed at the younger market, taking inspiration for pop culture and Korean beauty.
“The Beckhams are incredibly encouraging parents when it comes to their kids’ talents and exploring their hobbies and business ideas. They’re a very entrepreneurial family.”
The news comes after family matriarch Victoria opened up about “Brand Beckham” – insisting the evolution of the family’s various business ventures happened naturally after her eldest son Brooklyn, 27, stunned the world when he released a statement in January accusing his parents of prioritising their brand above everything else.
Speaking to Emma Grede on her Aspire podcast, the former Spice Girls star appeared to address the family fall out, as she began by reflecting on the ‘Brand Beckham’ fascination.
She said: “When David and I first met it was never our intention to start a brand. People talk about ‘Brand Beckham’ – that has happened so organically. “When I first met David, I mean he was a Brylcreem boy. So David was Adidas and Brylcreem and Pepsi and I was in the Spice Girls and that’s where I learnt so much about how to build a brand and marketing.
“While he was doing Brylcreem and Adidas, the Spice Girls were doing Walker’s crisps, Pepsi, Chupa Chups lollies, deodorant …
“So when, people talk about ‘Brand Beckham’, that was never something that we even discussed. We don’t have any deals together. David does what David does, I do what I do.
“That’s the way it’s always been. We have very different interests. I think it was the outside world that really talked about Brand Beckham, that’s never really how we saw it. We’re just doing what we do.”
Victoria went on to reflect on how raising her children, Brooklyn, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14, in the public eye has affected them, after Brooklyn’s claim that he grew up with “overwhelming anxiety”.
She continued: “Our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David and I think the world is also a very different place now than what it was when they were younger. We’ve always tried to protect the children as much as we can, we’ve always been very close.
“Ultimately, we want the kids to be hard-working and kind. I’ve always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids. I also feel it’s been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential. It’s never about being pushy, it’s about being there to support.”
Brooklyn’s explosive social media rant also accused his parents of ruining his wedding to model Nicola Peltz in 2022, and made it clear he had no desire to reconcile with his “performative” family.
In posts shared on Instagram, Brooklyn addressed ongoing tensions with his parents, writing: “I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private.
“Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”
He added: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
