Steve Guttenberg and Emily Guttenberg have agreed the terms of their divorce.
One year after the 67-year-old actor – who is best known for playing Carey Mahoney in the ‘Police Academy’ film franchise – filed for divorce in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, he and Emily have managed to agree on a division of assets.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, the former couple entered into a settlement agreement on March 17, just less than one year after Steve filed divorce papers in April 2025.
Steve agreed to a $700,000 spousal support buyout to Emily but he will be able to keep all of his earnings before and during the marriage and post-separation.
Emily will also keep all of her earnings prior to and during the marriage and post-separation.
The pair signed a prenup in June 2018 ahead of their January 2019 wedding.
Steve will keep their Pacific Palisades home but Emily can visit “for the purpose of inspecting her personal property and taking with her any of her clothing” and “to arrange for her property to be moved into a storage facility.”
Steve will also keep all art, collectibles, antiques, furniture, fixtures, appliances, electronics and furnishings in his possession.
Any joint bank accounts will be split equally.
Steve will pay the monthly lease payments on Emily’s 2024 BMW and the monthly insurance premiums for the lease.
He will also pay for the cost to move and store her personal property until she finds a place to live, and will pay for her to stay in a hotel until July 1.
The filing stated: “For so long as [Emily] continues to reside at the Ritz Carlton … the incidental charges [she] incurs shall be paid by [Steve’s credit] card up to $2,000 per month. [He will] continue to allow [his ex] to charge on his [credit] card up to $5,000 per month until she vacates the Ritz Carlton and is living in an apartment.”
Steve cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.
The former couple tied the knot in Malibu in January 2019, after meeting on a blind date in 2014.
Emily announced their engagement via a Facebook post in 2016, when she posted a photo of Steve proposing to her. Emily captioned the image: “Yes, yes, yes.”
Steve heaped praise on Emily in an interview in 2017, describing the actress as “the real deal” and a “very classy lady”.
The movie star also suggested that Emily had made him “a better person”.
Steve – who was also married to actress Denise Bixler between 1988 and 1992 – told The Daily Beast: “I don’t want to give these things a jinx, but she makes me a better person which I really like. I have to up my game around her.
“She’s a very classy lady. She creates a wonderful home, her value system is terrific, and her character and integrity, [and funny] … she’s a really nice lady.”
