Eve Hewson thinks dating is “too much pressure”.
The 34-year-old actress is currently single and although she occasionally thinks about looking for a partner, she never enjoys the experience of trying get to know someone in a one-on-one setting.
She told the Sunday Times Style magazine: “Who the f*** goes on dates any more? Every now and then I’ll think, this is when I should meet someone. I’ll go out on a few dates.
“But I’m not good at sitting across from someone and being like, ‘So …’ It’s too much pressure.”
And the Disclosure Day actress thinks all the travelling she does for work makes it hard to find a significant other.
She said: “Even if you meet someone, you’re like, ‘Nice to meet you, I’m leaving for six months.’ Then you come back and they’re married with a child.”
At the moment, Eve couldn’t be happier with the way her career is going so she finds it frustrating that there are different expectations for men and women.
She said: “What I do feel right now is I’ve sort of hit my stride with work. And people say, ‘But where are your husband and kids?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m busy doing this.’ All of a sudden I’m supposed to go procreate for you.
“Men at 35 are only just starting to hit their stride. And we have to feel like our career is going to be over because we have to give up all this time to go have a child. That bothers me.”
Meanwhile, as the daughter of U2 frontman Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, Eve admitted more opportunities came her way as a result of her famous dad, but she has found it harder than others to be taken seriously as an actress.
She said: “It was just, like, people really don’t take you seriously.
“When you’re going into castings and meeting with directors, you can really feel that. So you have to power through.
“It’s definitely easier to get into the business, harder to be taken seriously. And that’s fine.”
Growing up with a parent in the public eye meant the idea of being famous never really appealed to the Perfect Couple actress.
She said: “I think it took [fame] off of a pedestal for me. It’s the dumbest thing on the planet to want to be famous. You’re losing all your privacy. You’re putting yourself up for so much criticism. I don’t know why we celebrate it so much.”
However, spending time on the road with U2 also had its benefits for Eve’s future life.
She explained: “You go away and have a sort of unbelievable fantasy life.
“And then you come back and take the train to school in the rain and see your friends and do your homework.”
“I make all these friendships with these people for six months and then go back to my regular life. I think it set me up for being able to manage it.”
