Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi forks out thousands on drinks for England fans after World Cup win

Lewis Capaldi splashed out almost £2,000 on drinks for England fans after their World Cup win over Mexico earlier this week.

The Scottish singer saw his beloved Tartan Army crash out of the competition last month, but he is said to have put his card behind the bar of the Marlborough pub in London’s Mayfair to pay for Three Lions fans’ beverages in the early hours of Monday morning (06.07.26), during a night out with fellow pop megastar Rita Ora.

A partygoer told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “When the final whistle went and England won, Lewis bought every single punter in the Marlborough a drink.

“Bar staff were instructed to charge all the drinks ordered to him.

“The tab was almost £2,000 in the end.”

Lewis’ kind gesture is said to have gone down well with pub attendees.

The partygoer added: “It was a massive treat and a real lovely gesture, especially from a Scotland fan.

“Lewis was there from kick-off with his mates and was joined by Rita, who was with her friends, as the night went on.

“Lewis was a proper legend. As well as buying that massive round he was so sweet to anyone who came up to him.

“He didn’t make a fuss of it, he just wanted to celebrate and the people in the boozer absolutely loved it.

“Most of them had already had a skinful by then, so Lewis was giving them one for the road.”

Lewis’ fans could be in for another treat soon, because the Someone You Loved hitmaker recently admitted he is planning to start work on a new album at the end of the summer.

He told the crowd during his headline set at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow last month: “After this summer.

“I’m gonna go away for a bit and make an album.”

The star’s last studio album was 2023’s Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.

Afterwards, he went on a hiatus to focus on his mental and physical health, after struggling with Tourette’s syndrome and anxiety.

Opening up to fans about how bad things got, he told the crowd: “And then.

“I had a complete and utter mental f****** breakdown.”

After the audience cheered, he quipped: “Thank you for cheering my mental breakdown.

“Was not a good couple of years I had, but I’m back and I’m feeling better, I feel good.

“I’m firing on all cylinders, it’s nice to be here. My mental health took a beating so it’s f****** nice to be here and back with you all.”
