‘Proudly gay’ rocker Caleb Shomo files for divorce from his wife of nearly 14 years

The Beartooth frontman and actor Fleur Shomo have jointly filed for divorce after nearly 14 years of marriage, weeks after the musician publicly shared his sexuality and both spoke candidly about the end of their relationship.

Caleb Shomo has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 14 years.

The rocker, 33, made the move in his split from Fleur Shomo, 41, two months after publicly coming out as gay and describing the announcement as part of a long journey towards accepting his identity.

The Beartooth frontman and Fleur, an actress who has appeared in the medical drama The Pitt, jointly filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week, according to court documents.

The couple, who married in 2012 after dating for around two years, listed their date of separation as 27 March.

They have no children.

The filing follows Caleb’s public statement in May addressing speculation surrounding his personal life, and Fleur’s subsequent message supporting him while also describing the end of their marriage as “disorientating and hurtful”.

The news comes as Beartooth continue to tour and build on the success of the band’s recent releases, while Caleb remains best known for fronting the Grammy-nominated metalcore group following his earlier career with Attack Attack!.

In a statement shared with his Instagram followers in May, Caleb said: “I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further.

“I am a proudly gay man.”

Caleb said he had spent years trying to understand his feelings.

He wrote it has been “difficult” for him “to navigate the feelings surrounding the subject and figure out what to do with this fact”.

Reflecting on his songwriting, Caleb said he had always put “the deepest part of my soul” into his music, pointing to the themes explored across Beartooth’s previous albums.

He wrote those records dealt with “my religious upbringing, depression, self hatred, self loathing, and hopelessness”.

Looking ahead to future music, Caleb said: “I will express myself whole heartedly and fully.”

He added: “I am grateful for all these albums, yet feel embarrassed at times that I wouldn’t allow myself to really dig up the roots for so long.

“I spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol, and honestly when I decided to put it down and focus on exploring why I felt this way for so long, it’s been a direct path to me reconciling with my sexuality in hopes that it will eventually lead to me experiencing self-love.”

Caleb also encouraged others to be open about their own experiences.

He urged people to “be honest” and added “do the hard work instead of burying it down as deep as you physically can thinking it will change like I did”.

He added: “Holding these things in only hurt you and those around you.

“Love you all, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction to loving myself one day.”

Hours after Caleb’s post, Fleur shared her own statement, saying the previous months had been “a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate. For both of us”.
