Singer Nivea shares leukaemia diagnosis

Nivea is feeling grateful for life after being diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year.

Grammy-nominated singer Nivea is battling leukaemia.

The Laundromat hitmaker – who was nominated for the Best R+B Performance prize at the 2003 Grammy Awards for her song Don’t Mess with My Man – revealed she was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year when asked what she is most thankful for and she chose the fact her treatment is going well so far.

Asked the question on Caddillac Chronicles, she said: “Well, first of all, I was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, and I’m so grateful to God. I’ve been going through treatment, and everything is going great so far. And I expect it to continue. Amen, amen, amen.”

The 44-year-old star is staying as positive as she can and feels “very grateful for life.”

She added: “It’s so cliche to say you don’t know the time nor the hour, but it’s true and it just helped me put a lot of things in perspective, and I live in gratitude, like, religiously, and I’m just grateful for everything.”

And not only is Nivea – who has daughter Navy, 21, and 20-year-old twins London and Christian with ex-husband The-Dream and 16-year-old son Neal with former fiance Lil Wayne – focused on her music, she’s fulfilling other career ambitions too.

She said: “I’m doing things I wanna do. I’m definitely back into my music, and I’m going to school for audio engineering. I’ve always wanted to learn how to engineer, and mixing engineering in particular.

“In general, I’m just doing all the things, honey! I’m loving all my children and just being grateful. I’m taking every opportunity that comes my way!”

Lil Wayne has four children with four different women and Nivea has previously insisted they all get along well, with her being particularly close to Lauren London, whose son with the rapper, Kameron, was born just a few months before Neal.

She told VLADTV: “I found out the day I was confirmed pregnant with our son that he had another one that should be expected three months ahead of ours.

“It’s still a testament to the type of man [Lil Wayne] is because all of his baby mothers, we’re all cool with each other.”
