Night Heat actor Scott Hylands has died aged 83.
The Canadian actor passed away on July 29, his son Luke announced in an Instagram post.
He wrote: “Husband, Father, Actor, Director, Writer, Storyteller, Friend, and lover of life.
“I am heartbroken to share the news that my Dad Scott has passed away Wednesday night. Myself and my family are still trying to process this horrible loss.”
Directing his next words to his late father, Luke wrote: “There simply are not enough words I can say about you right now. You are my forever hero and my best friend.
“Always and forever. I love you. Goodbye Dad. xo”
He accompanied the post with a selection of pictures of Scott, both by himself and with relatives.
The comments section of the Instagram post was almost immediately filled with condolence messages, with one person writing: “Oh Luke I am so so sorry to hear this. He was such an incredible man. You’re testament to that and continue to be everyday. Sending you so much love to you and the rest of the family.”
As another added: “Sending my condolences. He was a great man. Legends live forever.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2021. However, it’s unclear whether his death was related to the diagnosis.
Scott was best known for playing Kevin “O.B.” O’Brien in police drama Night Heat, which ran from 1985 to 1989.
The programme made history as the first original Canadian drama series to simultaneously broadcast in the U.S., according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported Hylands’ death.
Hylands also had TV roles in shows including The X-Files, NYPD Blue and Fargo, while movie credits include 1969 horror comedy Daddy’s Gone A-Hunting.
In addition, he was an established theatre actor, starring in more than 20 productions as an original member of the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.
His final role saw him star in TV show Wynonna Earp in 2020.
Scott is survived by Luke, daughter Rebecca and wife Veronica.
