The success of the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day has driven renewed interest in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, with player numbers and searches for new titles rising following the film’s release.
The release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has sparked a major resurgence in interest in Spider-Man video games, with players returning to Insomniac Games’ acclaimed superhero titles.
The latest Spider-Man film has become a major box office success, reportedly becoming one of the fastest movies ever to surpass $1 billion worldwide.
Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the film sees Spider-Man join forces with characters including The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, and The Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, as he faces a new threat across New York.
Following the film’s launch, interest in Spider-Man gaming experiences has increased significantly.
According to Polygon, Google searches for terms including “new Spider-Man game” and “Spider-Man Brand New Day game” have risen by around 40 per cent since the movie’s release.
That renewed attention has also translated into higher player numbers for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Data from SteamDB shows that Marvel’s Spider-Man reached its highest concurrent player count in four years on August 4, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 recorded its strongest performance since launching on PC in January 2025.
To coincide with the film’s release, additional Spider-Man-inspired content was added to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including outfits influenced by the movie.
A separate Spider-Man collaboration has also arrived in Fortnite.
Holland has previously spoken about his admiration for Insomniac’s games, describing the series as “absolutely sensational”.
Speaking to IGN during the film’s premiere, the 30-year-old actor revealed that he regularly plays the games himself.
He said: “I was actually playing [the game] last night. I couldn’t sleep last night, I was so excited about today.”
Holland has also confirmed that several action sequences and moments from Brand New Day were influenced by the Marvel’s Spider-Man games, highlighting the growing relationship between the film and gaming versions of the character.
Meanwhile, speculation continues around the future of Insomniac’s Spider-Man series.
Earlier this year, Peter Parker actor Ben Jordan teased that development had begun on another Spider-Man project.
Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has also confirmed that his character will return in the currently unannounced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, despite the character seemingly taking a break from superhero duties at the conclusion of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
He said: “Peter is not gone. He will be a part of the next game and he won’t be relegated to the couch, I promise.”
