Strauss Zelnick has insisted “everyone” will be watching the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on Netflix.
Rockstar parent company Take-Two is teaming up with the global streaming giant for the premiere of the highly anticipated video game’s ‘extended look’ trailer, which will be exclusive to the subscription service for six hours before launching across YouTube and other platforms.
The studio boss told IGN: “I think Rockstar felt that a Netflix release would be a great way to show off the extended trailer.
“Six hours later it will be available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and I think ultimately on many other outlets.
And I think this is an example of Rockstar trying new things and marketing the title and I hope there’s much more to come.”
Zelnick didn’t comment on specifics regarding the deal between developer Rockstar and Netflix.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear what format Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will take.
What we do know is the programme will stream via Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 8pm in the UK, before launching on YouTube at 2am in the UK the following day.
Zelnick refused to give details on the extended look, including its length, but he has hyped up the presentation as something special.
He added: “Well, as you’d imagine, I’m only going to say great things about Netflix. If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, you definitely should be one.
“And as for the trailer itself, it’s coming soon enough that I’ll let you arrive at your own conclusion. I’m sure you’re going to watch it because everyone is.”
GTA VI will cost $80 for the standard edition, which is more than typical triple-A console games.
However, Zelnick argued: ““We aim always to deliver vastly more value than what we charge. And we think that price point allows us to do just that.
“And then of course we have a premium opportunity for people who want to avail themselves of that.
“And even that one, again, we think is priced in a way so as to deliver much more value than what we’re charging.”
