Joe Jonas has opened up on being around the new stars of Camp Rock 3.
Joe Jonas doesn’t “envy anybody” in today’s new generation of Disney stars.
The 36-year-old star rose to fame with brothers Kevin, 38, and Nick, 33, as part of the Jonas Brothers in the mid-2000s, as they made various Disney Channel appearances before landing their acting debut in 2008’s Camp Rock.
Comparing the modern world with their own rise, Joe told The Hollywood Reporter: “I don’t envy anybody that’s doing this now, there’s probably a lot more scrutiny.
“Things happen a lot faster, and with that you also have an opportunity to kind of explain yourself quicker; when we were starting, we didn’t have a lot of options — just kind of hope that the article isn’t about you.
“Now you can at least go on your TikTok and say, ‘Hey guys, I didn’t say that’ or whatever it is.”
The Jonas Brothers have returned to Camp Rock for a third film in the franchise, and Joe wants the younger stars in the sequel to be cared for properly.
As well as the child stars having more resources through professionals and the studio, Joe wanted to ensure they “were running a safe space on set”.
He added: “That was one of our priorities when we signed up to do this, we were like, ‘We want these kids to feel comfortable,’ because ultimately we remember what it was like and it can be a lot of pressure.
“They’re about to be shot out of a cannon into stardom, so we wish them the best and we hope they’re surrounded by love and care.”
Demi Lovato, who reprised her role as Mitchie in a cameo for Camp Rock 3, described her comeback almost two decades after Camp Rock 2 as “really healing for me”.
She was also keen to offer advice to the new stars.
Demi told them: “This is going to be a whirlwind and make sure to take breaks if you need them; it’s so important to protect your mental health, and to soak it up and to have fun. That’s the most important part.”
The Disney+ movie sees Joe, Nick and Kevin back as Shane, Nate and Jason Gray – better known as the band Connect 3.
The trio’s opening act has cancelled at the last minute, and so they host a competition at Camp Rock to find new talent to perform on tour.
Camp Rock 3 will premiere on Thursday (13.08.26) on the Disney Channel before dropping the following day on Disney+.
