The vintage Sophia Webster sandals worn by Zendaya on The Odyssey press tour were tracked down via Instagram following an extensive search to find the right shoes in her size.
Zendaya’s stylist sparked a worldwide search for the vintage Sophia Webster sandals she wore on The Odyssey press tour.
Law Roach emailed designer Sophia Webster in a bid to track down a specific pair of gladiator-style shoes from her Autumn/Winter 2014 collection but the shoe creator struggled to find a pair of the Clementine sandals as even the pair in her private collection were the wrong size for the actress. So Sophia took to Instagram to issue a plea to fashion fans – urging anyone with a pair stashed in their closet to come forward to help.
In a video posted on Instagram, Sophia explained she tried her best to source a pair of the shoes and she turned to social media when all her ideas failed. She said: “So we got an email from Law’s team requesting the Clementine heels. But I hadn’t seen a pair of that shoe for years. The shoe is 12 years old.
“So the request was very specific and intentional I just knew if I could get the shoes to Law, then he would get them on Zendaya …
“I had to find a pair. I had my own pair in black but they weren’t the right size. It’s quite likely we would have had a pair in archive. I wanted to go to the warehouse to search the palettes but my husband was like: ‘It’s too big a job, you won’t be able to find it.
“The timeline was to tight for the factory to make a new pair, no reseller had them available so my last hope was Instagram.”
Sophia put out a request for anyone who had a pair of the shoes at home to get in touch – and she was approached by a follower named Yvette who just happened to have the sandals in the right size.
She arranged for Yvette’s shoes to be delivered to Law’s hotel and the designer then spent days scouring the Internet to see if the shoes would end up on Zendaya’s feet.
Sophia added: “And all we had left to do was wait and cross our fingers. Then every day we were watching, every day we were stalking. Every single day.”
Zendaya finally stepped out wearing the shoes in New York City on July 13 and Sophia added: “When she wore them, we were all screaming … Ever since, we have had a lot of requests to bring that style back … Who knows. Maybe Clementine is making a comeback.”
