Princess Eugenie reveals baby name with Queen tribute

The royal has introduced her first daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, two weeks after welcoming her third child with Jack Brooksbank in Portugal.

Princess Eugenie has revealed the name of her newborn daughter – Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank – with the royal baby’s middle name paying tribute to her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

The 36-year-old daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson welcomed her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank, 40, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, on August 3.

Adelaide, the couple’s first daughter after sons August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, five, and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, three, weighed 6lb 9oz and was born at 6.20pm.

Announcing her daughter’s full name on Instagram two weeks after the birth, Eugenie said: “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world.

“And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

“Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.

“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

Eugenie accompanied the announcement with new photographs of Adelaide, including an image of the newborn with her two older brothers.

Another showed Eugenie and one of her sons holding hands with the baby.

The name has several royal and historical connections. Adelaide was the name of Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV, while Elizabeth directly honors Queen Elizabeth II, who died aged 96 in 2022. People reported that Eugenie had another connection to Queen Adelaide at her 2018 wedding to Jack, when she wore a wheat-ear brooch originally commissioned for the 19th-century queen.

The name also reflects the family’s links to Portugal, where Eugenie and Jack live for part of the year. The couple also maintain a home in Britain.

Adelaide is the couple’s third child following August and Ernest. Eugenie and Jack married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018 after meeting while skiing in Verbier, Switzerland.

The princess announced her latest pregnancy in May, sharing an image of her sons holding a baby scan and writing: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!”

Adelaide is 15th in line to the British throne, immediately following her brothers, with Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, 62, moving down one position.

The baby is also Queen Elizabeth II’s 15th great-grandchild.

Her arrival is another royal birth outside Britain. Princess Lilibet, five, the daughter of Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 45, was born in California in 2021.

Adelaide arrived one day before Meghan celebrated her 45th birthday on August 4.

The Duchess of Sussex subsequently shared photographs from an early birthday celebration in California, including an image of herself jumping into a swimming pool while carrying balloons.

Meghan has also recently been promoting Cookie Queens, the Girl Scouts documentary she co-executive produced, which reached US theaters this month after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival.

The new arrival also comes during a turbulent period for Eugenie’s wider family following the continuing fallout surrounding her father, Andrew, 66.

Andrew was stripped of the title of prince and the style of HRH in 2025, with the College of Arms recording his title as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

His property arrangements have remained under scrutiny this year.

A National Audit Office investigation published in June examined royal residential arrangements, including Royal Lodge, while reporting established Andrew had generated private income by subletting three cottages on the estate.

Eugenie has continued to maintain her own public profile separately from her father. The princess is a director at the contemporary art gallery Hauser Wirth and co-founded The Anti-Slavery Collective with Julia de Boinville.

The Royal Family formally announced Adelaide’s birth on August 4, saying King Charles III, 77, Queen Camilla, 79, and other members of the family had been informed.

The Palace said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.”
