Patsy Kensit has reflected on her marriage to Liam Gallagher, and the moment his brother Noel asked why she’d put her career on hold.
Patsy Kensit “lost herself” during her marriage to Liam Gallagher and told his brother Noel she was “afraid to leave him alone”.
The 58-year-old actress, who had appeared in the likes of Lethal Weapon 2 and Absolute Beginners before her relationship with the Oasis frontman, has revealed Liam’s older brother was the one who asked why she’d put her career on hold.
Appearing on Davina McCall’s Begin Again podcast, she said: “I think what I forgot in that time was how much I’d done before it.
“That relationship became so big. It was bigger than me and therefore the pressure was huge.”
She added: “I lost part of who I was going into that relationship. I somehow lost her.”
Patsy recalled a conversation with Noel where he asked why she had stepped away from her own acting ambitions.
She added: “I remember Noel, who is lovely and divine, and he’s just always been lovely to me over the years.
“I remember him taking me to one side and saying, ‘Why aren’t you working? Why aren’t you…’, because I was always off doing films and going to the States and stuff.
“And I remember saying, ‘Because I’m too afraid to leave him on his own.’ “
Noel encouraged her to get back to her career, and her relationship with Liam “ran its course”.
She reflected: “There were some fantastic times. We were very irresponsible. I always say I had some very late nights in the 90s.”
They first met in 1995, and got married in 1997, before getting divorced in 2000, after welcoming son Lennon, now 26, into the world.
When they met, Patsy was still married to second husband Jim Kerr, the singer from Simple Minds, although she noted they were “leading separate lives” by that point.
The recalled how she and Liam “just kept running into each other”, noting it wasn’t “a sleazy coming together”.
Patsy and Jim, who have 32-year-old son James together, divorced in 1996 after four years of marriage.
The actress does regret how her relationship with Liam, 53, started, but she is still grateful.
She added: “Do I regret that? Yeah, I look back now, but then I wouldn’t have had my youngest son, and that’s a blessing.
“It came out of, you know, some very tough times in that marriage.”
