Sandra Bullock has revealed she auditioned “for every pervert that existed” when she was a struggling actress and was asked to “drop” her pants.
Sandra Bullock was asked to “drop” her pants at auditions when she was a struggling actress.
The Practical Magic 2 star has confessed she auditioned “for every pervert that existed” as she attempted to carve out a career in Hollywood while working as a waitress in New York – but Sandra is adamant she walked away from roles whenever she was made to feel uncomfortable.
During a chat with fellow actress Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine, the friends star asked if her career was “a deliberate choice” or if it just evolved and Sandra replied: “You’ll get this. I was in New York, I was a waitress, I was auditioning for every pervert that existed, asking me to drop my pants.
“I was like: ‘Nope, not the role for me’.
“I was working my way up. Every working actor thinks you will never work again so you just take what you can get and make the most of it.”
Sandra went on to explain she did make a big decision about her career trajectory when she decided to walk away from rom-coms and embrace more dramatic roles.
The Speed star said: “The only time I was intentional about my career was when I said, “I need to stop right now with the rom-coms,” because I was getting so much shit for them. And I took a role in this film called Crash … It was a genius film. I wanted to start flexing other muscles.”
Sandra went on to admit she’s been keen to protect her privacy since becoming a Hollywood star, adding: “I’ve been insanely private since I was a little kid. I drove my mother crazy. That’s just inherently who I am.
“I love being in a safe group. Nothing makes me happier than coming to your house and hanging with everybody, but then you have situations where people take your privacy and sell it.
“But I love telling stories and it’s our job to go out there and represent. And once I get out there, I have a blast.”
She went on to admit she enjoys taking part in interviews to promote her movies but she hates posing on red carpets, saying: “I’m actually fine with the interviews. It’s the posing …
“I want to be Zendaya, but I will never be Zendaya. I’m like Zendaya’s shoe polisher. She’s glorious.”
