Raye, Sombr and Teddy Swims will lead a star-packed tribute to George Michael at this year’s MTV VMAs.
Raye, Sombr and Teddy Swims are set to take to the stage for a special salute to George Michael at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on September 27.
The Careless Whisper hitmaker, who tragically passed away in 2016, aged just 53, earned four VMAs during his dazzling career, and was bestowed with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award back in 1989.
This year also sees the release of the George Michael: The Faith Tour live album, which drops on November 6, followed by a concert film hitting cinemas.
The tribute announcement comes after it was revealed that Taylor Swift is set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honours.
The 36-year-old pop megastar, who has the most awards in VMA history with 30 thus far, has directed all her recent music videos, and has won Best Director four times at the annual ceremony.
The news was announced on Monday (21.09.26) by CBS and MTV, who said the new award pays tribute to artists “whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling.”
The prize also “celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice”.
In recent years, Taylor has directed her videos for the likes of The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, All Too Well: The Short Film, Anti-Hero, Lavender Haze and more.
Taylor is nominated for another nine awards, including Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia.
The track is also in the running for the Best Pop, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects.
The Life of a Showgirl is on the shortlist for Best Album, while I Knew It, I Knew You is nominated for Song of Summer, and Opalite is up for Best Direction.
Madonna is the most-nominated artist this weekend, with 13 nods.
The ceremony will be hosted by Snoop Dogg.
