Leon Bridges has just released new album Happiness Anytime, with the songs all boasting an optimistic and energetic tone, and opened up about inspiring fans through his music during an interview with Man of Many.
Leon Bridges believes musicians have a “responsibility to uplift and encourage” people with their work.
The 37-year-old singer has just released new album Happiness Anytime, with the songs all boasting an optimistic and energetic tone, and opened up about inspiring fans through his music during an interview with Man of Many.
He said: “I feel all artists have a responsibility to use their platform to uplift and encourage people through music.
“Everyone has a role within this life, and I truly believe that you can make an impact by giving people joy through music.”
One of the tracks on the new album is titled Tears of Joy, and tackles just how fast the world is changing these days.
Asked how he maintains his positive outlook on life and stays grounded, Leon replied: “A big part of that is my faith in God, you know?
“In my 20s, I had a spiritual encounter with God, and that really shaped my songs and the way I live my life. That’s one of the things that keeps me focused.
“Sometimes it can be debilitating just to feel the weight of everything that’s going on, but the beautiful thing about music is that we can kind of go to another place through it. It’s so calming and peaceful.”
Leon added that he’s learned over years in the music industry what works for him and “what doesn’t”.
He explained: “Having discipline and staying focused, and keeping the main thing the main thing, is what brings longevity to anybody.
“Currently, it’s really awesome to see a shift happening in music where music with integrity and meaningful music is getting championed and hitting the forefront.”
Leon has also been lucky enough to have friends and family keeping him on the straight and narrow – with his dad front and centre.
He said: “One thing my Dad has always said is to watch the company that you keep, because being in the wrong crowd could possibly lead to destruction.
“I’m grateful to have people around me who have my best interests at heart. That has been so helpful in navigating through a world where there isn’t a lot of grace if you don’t have everything together.
“It really comes down to the company you keep.”
