Woody Harrelson revealed his surprise at discovering that his Wag the Dog co-star Robert De Niro owns 18 dogs, two of which starred alongside him in his movie The Alto Knights.
Robert De Niro owns 18 dogs.
That’s according to fellow Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson, who was left shocked at the number of canines his Wag the Dog co-star has.
Speaking to Interview magazine, he said De Niro had “18 dogs” when he recently visited his house in New York.
The 65-year-old actor explained: “We went over to his house here in New York, and nine dogs came to the door.
“They’re these little dogs, they get to do whatever they want.”
Despite starring alongside him in 1997 political satire movie Wag the Dog, Woody didn’t really think of 83-year-old De Niro as a dog person before his visit.
He added: “Thinking about Bob De Niro, you don’t think of him inside of this world with a zillion dogs.”
But some of De Niro’s dogs are also stars of the big screen.
He appeared opposite Debra Messing in 2025 movie The Alto Knights, and the actress previously told how two of the pooches in the motion picture were De Niro’s pets Lily and Annie.
Speaking previously on the Today show, she said: “It was incredible. First of all, they are Bob’s real dogs.
“Those are his dogs, which made me laugh so hard.
“He walked in with these little dogs. I was like, ‘Okay, this doesn’t compute.’ But it was amazing.”
Debra told how De Niro’s dogs wore mink coats, and they went on to land more prominent roles than the canines were originally cast for.
She explained: “So the dogs got a much, much bigger role than was originally intended.
“They were also dressed in mink coats.”
De Niro previously admitted his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, convinced him to help his pooches land roles in The Alto Knights.
Speaking on BBC programme The One Show, he said: “My girlfriend – we have a lot of dogs – she said, ‘Maybe you could put these dogs in, one of them!’
“And I said, ‘Okay, let me introduce them
