Valerie Bertinelli received ‘pushback’ after she paid tribute to her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen on Instagram on Tuesday (06.10.26) – the sixth anniversary of his death.
Valerie Bertinelli has hit back at her “haters” after she received “pushback” for marking the sixth anniversary of ex-husband Eddie Van Halen’s death on Instagram.
The actress, 66, posted a throwback shot of herself and the rocker, who died on October 6, 2020, following a battle with throat cancer aged 65, in a car, with the caption: “Photos may fade, like old photos do, but not the memories and never the love.”
But just hours later, Valerie explained that she always gets “pushback” when she shares a picture of Eddie, whom she was married to from 1981 until 2007, and had son Wolfgang, 35, with.
The Hot in Cleveland alum said: “It does not take long for me to get a lot of pushback when I post a picture of me and Ed.
“It used to really bother me. It does not, not any longer.”
Valerie said trolls will never outright say that she is “not allowed to love your ex-husband”, but they will instead “berate you and berate you for months, make you think you’re crazy until you finally say, ‘OK, fine, I don’t love him'”.
The Touched by an Angel entertainer continued: “They will never say, ‘Take that picture down, the one of your ex-husband along with you and your son in better days.’
“But they say that you’re obsessed, say all kinds of f***** up s*** until you take the picture down.”
Valerie, who branded the critics’ actions “insidious” and “soul-breaking”, added: “I learned a lot, and you can’t tell me how I feel. Nobody can tell you how you feel.”
The former Food Network star held onto a “lot of love” after she and the Jump hitmaker divorced.
She said: “And, if I ever fall in love again, I’ll make room in my heart for that person, without it touching the love I have for Ed, my son, my daughter-in-law, all the people that I love.
“Your heart opens up. Because your heart can hold a lot of love. All of our hearts can.”
“So you can’t bother me. I love Ed. Never stopped loving Ed. And my heart loves a lot. Don’t you wish yours could too?”
Valerie captioned the upload: “Strap in haters, let’s go for a little ride.”
