Mikey Madison admits to being an ‘overthinker’

Film star Mikey Madison has confessed to being an “overthinker”.

Mikey Madison is “too much of an overthinker” to become big-headed.

The 27-year-old star has enjoyed huge success in recent years, earning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Anora, the 2024 romantic comedy-drama movie, but Mikey insists there’s no danger of her getting carried away by her success.

The Hollywood star explained to People: “I’ve been really lucky that I’ve been able to, since Anora, be a part of exploring really interesting characters and working with filmmakers that I’ve dreamed of.”

Mikey – who stars in The Social Reckoning, the sequel to 2010’s The Social Network – feels “excited for the next few years”.

But, she added: “I’m too much of an overthinker and too self-critical to ever get a big head.”

Mikey plays whistleblower Frances Haugen in The Social Reckoning, and the actress relished the role.

Speaking about her relationship with social media, Mikey said: “It was never something that fully resonated with me.

“Telling stories authentically is my number one biggest goal as an actress. When I want people to watch the films that I’m a part of, I want them to be watching the characters that I’m playing, not someone who maybe they think I am.”

Meanwhile, Mikey previously explained that her family have helped her to remain “tethered to the ground” since her Oscars success.

The film star – who has two sisters and two brothers – told People: “I have some really incredible people around me, like my family, friends that help keep me, like, tethered to the ground.

“I don’t know in terms of advice, I’m not sure, but my brothers are constantly reminding me that I’m just their sister. Yeah, I’m being humbled.”

Mikey stars alongside Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Bill Burr, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen in The Social Reckoning, and the actress explained that she was looking for a role that “felt right” following her Oscars success.

She shared: “I think when you think about things like putting pressure on yourself, I don’t think that can do anything positive for you.

“Really, I just want to hopefully have a long career working with interesting people, people who wanna tell powerful stories, playing fun characters and existing in fun universes, and so that’s my biggest goal.

“And with this particular role, I was just really drawn to my character’s beautiful moral compass, and I felt like she had a really compelling emotional restraint of her.”
