In his speech on the latest episode of the Saturday Night Live this weekend (10.10.26), Shane Gillis used one portion to share his views on what he deemed to be inappropriate outfits he’s seen women wearing while working out.
Dan Levy was left “speechless” after watching a monologue on Saturday Night Live in which comedian Shane Gillis took aim at women who “dress like w*****” at the gym.
In his speech on the latest episode of the beloved sketch show this weekend (10.10.26), Shane used one portion to share his views on what he deemed to be inappropriate outfits he’s seen women wearing while working out.
He said: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like w***** now. Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts?”
Shane went on to slam the “neon, artificial bait-coloured” shorts where “the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole”.
He added: “And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look. For real! Don’t look, ‘cause they are filming.”
Shane attracted immense backlash with the sketch, with Schitt’s Creek star Dan leading the celebrity response to the scandal.
Dan, who hosted Saturday Night Live himself back in 2021, said in an Instagram video: “I’m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television. And to be perfectly honest, more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a ‘crime.’
“Men need to be defending women more. This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue. Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects.
“They are not objects, they are superior human beings to men, okay? And I’m sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet, but f***!”
Shane has yet to respond to the backlash, but was did issue a public apology after accidentally swearing in another sketch on the show.
He dropped the F-bomb during the Dr Seuss-themed sketched, and later told the audience: “Sorry about earlier”.
