The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star McKenna Grace has revealed how the movie’s press tour has helped with her insecurities around fashion.
Mckenna Grace says dressing up for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping press tour has been “healing”.
The 20-year-old star has loved getting to pay tribute to the past stars of the franchise, while getting to experiment with her own sense of style has been a huge boost.
She told Entertainment Tonight: “I’m such a huge Hunger Games fan and fashion kind of has been…
“I don’t know like, whenever you’re a girl and you’re growing up I feel like you get so insecure about your body.
“Fashion’s been weird and hard for me to figure out, so being able to play around with it in this way has been so fun for me.
“It makes me feel so, I don’t know, like, in a way, healing, that now I’m having fun with fashion versus it being something of anxiety.”
Mckenna hailed Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss Everdeen in the original beloved film series, as her “favourite actress”.
She added: “Everything is a reference lately.
“It’s just homage to all the people that were a part of this franchise before I was … it’s been really cool. I’m overwhelmed and thankful.”
So far, Mckenna has stepped out in a dress inspired by Katniss’ wedding gown from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
She has also appeared in a cream and grey midi dress, which is the same style Jena Malone (Johanna Mason) wore at the movie’s 2013 film premiere.
And just last week, Mckenna appeared at the 6th Annual Academy Museum Gala in a red dress inspired by Jennifer’s figure hugging gown at the 2011 Oscars.
Sunrise on the Reaping, the sixth film in the series, is based on author Suzanne Collins’ fifth novel, which follows a young Haymitch Aberthany in the Second Quarter Quell, which takes place decades before he mentored Katniss and Peeta Mellark.
Mckenna will play Maysilee Donner and her sister Merrilee Donner in the movie.
She previously revealed that she was diagnosed with scoliosis aged 12, and underwent surgery four years ago to prevent her spinal curvature from impacting her lung, reducing it from 45 to six degrees.
She told Footwear news: “My style has changed a lot. I had a really big life-changing surgery on my back a few years ago that changed the way I stand and the way that my body looks in clothes, so I feel like my style is kind of ever-evolving.”
