Elizabeth Hurley said her relationship with rumoured fiancé Billy Ray Cyrus works so well because they are “empty nesters”.
Elizabeth Hurley has reflected on her blended family in a new interview, insisting it works because she and rumoured fiancé Billy Ray Cyrus are “empty nesters”.
Country singer Billy Ray is a dad of six thanks to his previous relationships, with Miley Cyrus among them, while Elizabeth has one child – son Damian – with her late ex Steve Bing.
Speaking about her relationship on the Off Air with Jane Fi podcast, Elizabeth mused: “It works very well, I think.”
She added that it was harder when the children were younger, but now Damian is the baby of the blended family, at 24 years old.
Elizabeth mused: “They were at school. There were still school runs, school holidays. There was an awful lot to juggle. And now, Billy and I are empty nesters.
“All our children are independent and Damian is the youngest of all of them.”
The Royals star added that when she dated cricketer Shane Warne, who died in 2022 aged 52, they had to deal with his children, who were young at the time.
She said: “When I dated a previous boyfriend of mine, Shane – who sadly, of course, isn’t with us anymore – he had three kids and they were all sort of the same age as Damian and then a few years above, but they were kids.”
But now Damian is 24, things are vastly different for the actress and model – which has its bonuses and its pitfalls.
She said: “It’s very different. It’s more grown up and it’s easier. Sometimes I miss being a hands-on mummy.
“I don’t miss the school runs. I don’t miss running around the house screaming because I can’t find a tennis racket. I don’t mind missing that.
“But you do sort of miss, I suppose, being so hands-on. It’s an adjustment to have to make.”
Elizabeth’s podcast interview comes after she sparked engagement rumours earlier this month by flashing a huge diamond ring on her left hand in a post on Instagram.
While she left the picture without a caption, Damian commented: “SO EXCITED!”
