Matthew Perry’s sister reveals heartbreaking funeral details

Matthew Perry’s sister sister Mia Perry Bowick has revealed his former Friends co-star stood around his coffin crying and holding hands during his funeral in 2023.

The Friends cast stood around Matthew Perry’s coffin crying and holding hands during his funeral, according to his sister.

The late actor’s sibling Mia Perry Bowick has opened up about the painful day her brother’s loved ones came together to say goodbye following his death in 2023 and she shared the poignant moment Matthew’s former co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc – gathered around his casket as they shared their grief.

In new Netflix documentary The One About Matthew Perry, Mia explained: “I hadn’t seen them in easily 20 years. Jennifer Aniston was the first one of them to come up to me and give me a huge hug. But they all did.

“And then, all five of them walked up to the casket holding hands and stood around him, crying.”

Mia went on to reveal she felt her brother’s presence during the funeral and he made her laugh despite the tough circumstances.

She said: “He showed up right behind my right shoulder and goes: ‘How f***** up is this?’ And I started laughing so hard. I was like: ‘Oh, my God – there he is!’

“Making me laugh at the most horrible moment, and also incredibly inappropriate for me to start laughing.

“But I just started cracking up. And I was like: ‘Yeah man, this is pretty f***** up’.”

The One About Matthew Perry is scheduled for release on October 27, almost three years after his death at 54.

The actor was found unresponsive in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles and the medical examiner later determined the primary cause of death was the acute effects of ketamine.

Perry’s Friends co-stars declined to appear in the new documentary but director Mary Robertson admitted she understood why they didn’t feel it was not the right time to open up about the tragedy.

She told New York Post column PageSix: “I know the Friends actors love Matthew, and grieve Matthew. We did ask them if they would participate, and they decided not to.

“I think everyone grieves in their own way. And I understand why someone might feel that this isn’t the moment to talk.

“And I understand Mia felt that this was absolutely the moment when she should be sharing this really raw and open and vulnerable and powerful and funny account of loving her brother.”
