Paul Bettany ‘blew out about 10 blood vessels’ in his eye filming VisionQuest

Paul Bettany suffered the injury while shooting the Disney+ series, in which he plays the protagonist, White Vision.

The 55-year-old actor was left with a visibly bloody left eye for two weeks after “wildly overacting” as protagonist White Vision in the Disney+ series.

Appearing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, on Thursday (29.10.26), Paul revealed: “I was pretending to have a device on my head that is doing something to my brain, and I was just wildly overacting, and I blew out about 10 blood vessels in my eye.”

The ordeal taught the entertainer that “less is more” when it comes to acting.

Reacting, Jimmy quipped: “I’m impressed when actors can cry on command; you actually are able to pop your eye on command.”

The 58-year-old host wondered how long Paul’s left eye was visibly bloody, and he replied: “Like two weeks.”

Paul thinks it “must’ve cost production so much” to digitally remove his eye injury from scenes.

Making light of the situation, the star said: “The irony is the actor playing Vision is kind of myopic. I can’t see a thing when I take my glasses off. Which is great depending on the actor you’re working with.”

VisionQuest is the latest instalment in the WandaVision trilogy, following Paul’s rebooted Vision as he goes on the run with Thomas Shepard (Ruaridh Mollica), a mysterious boy who may be his reincarnated son, while confronting his past.

Paul explained that taking on the TV show allowed him to take time off afterwards to spend time with his 15-year-old daughter, Agnes.

Earlier this month, the Iron Man alum told The Times newspaper: “I’m paid a fabulous amount of money and have not worked in nine months, because I did VisionQuest and just didn’t want to be away from my daughter again, because the time left with her under my charge is diminishing.”

As well as Agnes, Paul and Jennifer have a 23-year-old son named Stellan.

He is also stepdad to her son Kai from a previous relationship.
