King Charles asks Sir Idris Elba ‘what are you doing here’ during surprise meeting in Caribbean

King Charles enjoyed an unexpected reunion with Sir Idris Elba during his Caribbean tour.

King Charles was surprised to see Sir Idris Elba on his Caribbean tour.

The 77-year-old monarch visited Antigua’s Nelson’s Dockyard on Monday (02.11.26) to unveil an engraved stone, where he bumped into the 54-year-old actor, who was there to attend the One Commonwealth Night concert in his role as a goodwill ambassador for The King’s Trust.

The Independent reports that after the pair shook hands, Idris asked: “How are you?”

The King replied: “What are you doing here?”

Idris quipped: “I get around,” while giving the royal a friendly pat on the arm.

The Hijack star also asked the King if he was “having a good time” in Antigua, before adding: “Sorry about the prime minister.”

Idris appeared to make a quip about Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, 59, who has backed calls for the country to become a republic.

The Caribbean nation has been an independent member of the Commonwealth of Nations since November 1981, with King Charles serving as its head of state.

The pair’s meeting comes after King Charles knighted Idris, whose Elba Hope Foundation supports youth advocacy, was during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle in June.

Idris said: “I receive this honour on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition and resilience has driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation.

“I hope we can do more to draw attention to the importance of sustained, practical support for young people and to the responsibility we all share to help them find an alternative to violence.”

On the second day of the Caribbean tour, King Charles showed off his dance moves in The Bahamas.

He took part in a Junkanoo, a carnival that celebrates island life, and took the opportunity to join dancers with a pair of maracas decorated in the colours of the Bahamian flag.

The King, dressed in a suit and sunglasses in the Caribbean heat, was cheered by the crowd as he joined in with the party spirit on October 28.

The monarch left The Bahamas on October 29 and was joined by his 79-year-old wife, Queen Camilla, in Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
