Music star Nile Rodgers defends using AI technology

Nile Rodgers has justified using AI for his Christmas Song music video.

Nile Rodgers has defended using AI for his latest music video.

The 74-year-old musician is releasing a video for Christmas Song, his collaboration with Rebecca Ferguson, and Nile recently shared a video clip of a crew “creating an AI me”.

Alongside a brief clip, Nile wrote on Instagram: “This AI capture was very thorough and I’m so excited about the finished project.”

However, one of Nile’s followers took umbrage with his decision to use AI, rather than employing someone to create the video from start to finish.

The music star subsequently explained that his creative team “created everything” and that AI simply “did what we told it to do”.

Nile said: “We painstakingly created every second you’ll see on the screen.

“If this were a traditional film it would’ve cost about $100,000. By the way you’re using AI daily… You’re being hypocritical. It’s ok for you to use AI in your way but you have problem with my way. Do you use Google, or get driving directions? Look at your own daily actions and check how much you use AI. Love, Nile. (sic)”

Meanwhile, Kings of Leon star Caleb Followill previously admitted that he feels “scared” of AI technology.

The 44-year-old star confessed to feeling a “little nervous” about AI’s ever-increasing influence on the music industry – although Caleb joked that he’s “kind of an old man”.

The musician told Sky News: “I am scared of it though, I think, maybe, a little bit.

“I’ve seen some stuff that makes me a little nervous.”

Caleb also believes that AI isn’t necessary in order to recreate the Kings of Leon sound.

Caleb – who co-founded the popular band more than 20 years ago – explained: “As far as music, it doesn’t take AI to sound like us, my god.

“We’re still learning how to play, so our skill level is still very much achievable by just human beings. It’s not going to take aliens or artificial intelligence.”
