Emily Blunt recently showed her children, Hazel and Violet, and she has revealed their reaction to the 2006 comedy-drama.
Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski’s daughters watched The Devil Wears Prada because their pals were “very into it”.
The 2006 film went down a storm with Hazel, 12, and Violet, nine, and they cannot wait to see their mom back as sharp-tongued Emily Charlton, the senior assistant to the formidable Runway magazine editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), in the sequel, which hits screens on May 1.
Blunt, 43, told E! News: “My kids saw it for the first time maybe a year or so ago, and partly because their friends are very into it.
“And then my kids again watched it last night because they know they’re going to see this one soon, and they just love it.”
Actor Krasinski, 46, adored The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Asked how her family reacted when they found out Blunt would be doing the sequel, she shared: “He loves it, and he’s a massive fan of the first movie. So he was thrilled. The kids were thrilled.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees near-retiree Miranda competing with Emily Charlton, her former assistant and now executive, over advertising revenue.
Thousands of fans descended on New York to watch Streep, Blunt, Anne Hathaway (Andrea “Andy” Sachs) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel Kipling) as they shot scenes in the Big Apple last summer.
And the excitement made it tricky “at times” to film the follow-up to the 2006 movie.
In March, Blunt was quoted by Best magazine as saying: “I have never experienced anything like it. We had paparazzi taking pictures. There were fans there every day.
“It was difficult at times because, of course, you want to keep everything under wraps. But yeah, the level of interest has been just incredible.”
Emily previously suggested that 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada is a “nostalgia bank” for viewers.
She told ELLE magazine: “The movie now is like a nostalgia bank for people.
“People have watched that movie 50 times. They’ve watched it with a sick parent; they’ve watched it when they go through a breakup. It has been a source of comfort and escapism. And the movie is really incredible as well. I think it’s a beautiful movie.
“In many ways, what starts off as a comedy – with the shock factor of the things they say, how they say them, and the ruthless nature of the fashion industry – then turns into something much more poignant and deep.
“I think it’s that shift in tone that people really gravitate toward.”
And Streep, 76, hopes to make a threequel to the David Frankel-directed comedy drama.
During an interview alongside Hathaway, 43, Blunt and Tucci, 65, on the latest episode of SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, host Andy Cohen, 57, asked the quartet: “Will we be meeting back in five, 10, 15 years for The Devil Wears Prada 3?”
As Tucci tried to finish his joke that he might not be alive for a third film, Blunt chimed in: “Don’t say, ‘I’ll be dead.’ You mustn’t say that joke.'”
Tucci quipped: “Alright. I’ll be infirm.”
After his response prompted laughter from him, Blunt, Hathaway and Streep, the latter shared she is open to the idea of playing Miranda for a third time.
Streep said: “I’m up for it.”
