The Descendants star Kylie Cantrall wants to “inspire the next generation of performers” with her role in the TV movies.
Kylie stars as Red, the daughter of Rita Ora’s character Queen of Hearts, in the newest instalment in the franchise – Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.
In an interview with People, the 21-year-old actress admitted she’s long been a fan of the movies, which originally starred Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson as the children of the most iconic Disney villains.
Now the setting of the film has been moved on to a few years down the line, with Kylie saying she’s hoping that her role will help inspire other young acting hopefuls.
She said: “[It’s my chance to] fulfill that dream and hopefully inspire the next gen of performers and actors.”
It was when Kylie first watched The Descendants when it was released as a Disney Channel Original movie in 2005 that she began her dream of starring in the franchise as a ‘VK’ – the abbreviation given to the ‘villain kids’.
She grinned: “I, myself, was the biggest Descendants fan growing up. I remember literally watching it that Friday when it premiered …
“The second that [the song] Rotten to the Core came on screen, I was like, ‘I’m in. I want to be a VK!’”
Kylie stars alongside Malia Baker in the film, with the latter taking on the role of Brandy’s character Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe Charming.
And Malia agreed with Kylie’s comments about wanting to inspire young stars – especially after seeing “the little dolls or the little Halloween costumes” of her character.
She added to People: “When you see it impact another little girl, especially in such a drastic way — where they’re wanting to look like you or wanting to literally sing the songs that you sing in a movie.
“I think it’s really a magical experience.”
The main cast members of Wicked Wonderland are completed by Liamani Segura, who plays Red’s younger sister Pink in the film.
The 17-year-old added: “Knowing that we’re gonna be a part of the kids’ childhoods just means everything to me.
“It’s been a blessing.”
The Descendants: Wicked Wonderland will initially debut on the Disney Channel on July 16, before it premieres on Disney+ the following day.
