Liam Gallagher mocks England captain after squeaky interview

Harry Kane joined teammates belting out the tune after England beat Mexico 3-2 in the World Cup in the early hours of Monday morning (5Jul26).

Liam Gallagher has led the jokes about England captain Harry Kane, after he lost his voice following his sing along to Oasis’ Wonderwall.

Harry joined teammates belting out the tune after England beat Mexico 3-2 in the World Cup in the early hours of Monday morning (5Jul26).

But the celebrations – which saw the fans in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium lead a rendition of the beloved tune after the team’s victory – meant that when he was interviewed after the game, Harry could barely speak, with a croaky, high-pitched voice coming out of his mouth.

He told the BBC: “It was a crazy game. We had to fight and we had to find something. I’ve just been singing, I can’t really talk. The occasion, the team, everything against us, we found a way…

“It was one of those days where the ref gave a lot against us. In the end it didn’t matter. I’m happy. Incredible, unbelievable support.

“[I’m] speechless!”

Millions flocked to social media to poke fun at the sportsman after watching the interview, which will no doubt go down in history, with Oasis frontman Liam leading the way.

Writing on X, Liam said: “’It’s hard work that singing, Harry Kane.

“C’mon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.”

One fan then suggested that Liam and his brother Noel should fly out to America if England reach the final of the football tournament.

They wrote: “Guessing if we do hit the final you know it’s mandatory you fly out there and sing Wonderwall live on the pitch.”

To which Liam replied: “We’ll see I’m ready,” before adding: “Oh I’ll show Harry how it’s done!”

Other stars celebrating after England’s win included former England footballer David Beckham, who shared a series of Instagram Stories and wrote: “Now that’s a performance wow. There was no other way of winning this game other than that. Absolutely brilliant.”

David went on to praise “brilliant” England manager, Thomas Tuchel, before sharing some kind words for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford – calling his performance “nothing other than perfection”.

He added: “Huge team performance. A night to be proud of each and everyone of the squad.”
