Some top WWE stars are set to appear in a new original live-action microdrama.
WWE wrestlers Drew McIntyre and Joe Hendry are set to star in a new original live-action microdrama.
The sports entertainment giant has announced a partnership with major verticals company ReelShort on a new series, which will feature Scottish duo McIntyre and Hendry and SmackDown’s Jacob Fatu alongside microdrama stars Marc Herrmann and Chase Mattson.
WWE head of original content and development Ben Houser told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement: “By bringing WWE Superstars into the ReelShort cinematic world, we are creating a new storytelling experience for the WWE Universe, while reaching a fresh audience with premium content on ReelShort’s innovative platform.”
It’s said other WWE superstars are set to appear in the drama.
While Hendry and Fatu are yet to really break out as actors, McIntyre has started making waves in Hollywood.
He made his acting debut as assassin Rory Mackenzie in 2024’s The Killer’s Game after being recommended by the movie’s leading man, former WWE champ Dave Bautista.
He’s been off WWE TV recently filming the Highlander reboot, which will see him play the brother of Henry Cavill’s character Connor MacLeod.
With that movie in postproduction, McIntyre is keeping busy on the set of The Last Druid, while the new vertical WWE project is due to start shooting next month with a premiere slated for later in the year.
ReelShort’s head of talent and business development, Sammie Hao, added: ”Brand partnerships are evolving beyond product placement.
“We’re creating entertainment ecosystems where brands, talent, and storytelling come together to build cultural moments that audiences actively engage with and share.“
Despite verticals having a largely female-leaning fanbase, ReelShort is trying to tap into a male audience, as the WWE partnership follows 2025 thriller American Sniper: The Last Round.
Plenty of WWE superstars have started to breakout as actors in recent years, following on from the success of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, John Cena and Bautista.
Later this year, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will appear in the Street Fighter live action movie as Guile and Akuma respectively.
Rhodes also had a part in the recent The Naked Gun reboot, while Reigns’ most recent role saw him and CM Punk voicing the Zebros in Zootropolis 2.
