The former couple’s French estate has escaped damage so far despite wildfires burning nearby, as their long-running legal dispute over the property continues.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s former Château Miraval estate has come under threat from wildfires sweeping southern France, with smoke seen close to the property as firefighters battle one of the country’s most severe fire seasons in decades.
The sprawling vineyard estate in Provence has remained at the centre of the former couple’s long-running legal dispute since Angelina, 51, sold her stake in the winery in 2021.
On Friday (31.07.26), aerial images published by TMZ showed smoke rising close to Château Miraval, although the estate itself appeared undamaged.
The development comes as France continues to battle its worst wildfire season in 20 years.
George Clooney, 65, and Amal Clooney, 48, recently confirmed they had evacuated their nearby home in Brignoles with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, because of the fires.
The wildfire threat comes just weeks after the latest development in Angelina and 62-year-old Brad’s years-long legal battle over Château Miraval, which continued even after the former couple finalised their divorce settlement in December 2024.
The pair, whose relationship began after co-starring in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, were together for more than a decade before Angelina filed for divorce in 2016. Brad has recently returned to cinemas with F1, while Angelina has remained in the spotlight following her acclaimed performance as opera singer Maria Callas in Maria.
According to court documents obtained by People, Angelina recently opposed Brad’s request for financial records dating back to 2017.
Brad’s filing stated: “Jolie has made her alleged financial vulnerability central to her case.”
Angelina’s legal team disputed that characterisation in its response.
The filing stated: “The issue is not whether Jolie needed the money – the issue is that she was trying to untangle her life and her finances from her controlling and abusive ex-husband.
“That distinction makes all the difference.”
Brad’s lawyers argued Angelina had made her finances relevant to the dispute by claiming she sought “financial independence” and had concluded she needed to sell her interest in Château Miraval to achieve that goal.
Angelina’s attorneys responded she “has never alleged that she was in financial distress.”
The latest court filings follow a California Superior Court ruling in June granting Brad permission to question members of the Stoli Group under oath after his legal team argued the company possessed information relating to Angelina’s sale of her stake in the winery.
Brad first sued Angelina in February 2022, alleging she sold her share of Château Miraval without his consent despite what he said had been an agreement that neither party would sell their interest without the approval of the other.
Angelina later filed a countersuit alleging Brad had been “waging a vindictive war against” her since she initiated divorce proceedings.
The estate itself has become one of the most recognisable symbols of the former couple’s lengthy legal dispute.
Once the family home where they married in 2014, Château Miraval has remained at the centre of multiple lawsuits over ownership and control of the business.
While the legal proceedings continue in California, firefighters in southern France are continuing efforts to contain the wildfires threatening parts of the Provence region.
Images published by TMZ showed dense smoke rising near the estate, although no visible damage to Château Miraval itself was evident in the aerial photographs.
