Kelly Osbourne has reflected on her time growing up at the Sunset Marquis hotel.
Kelly Osbourne had her “first line of cocaine” from one of Ozzy Osbourne’s famous rock and roll friends.
The 41-year-old star has reflected on her time growing up at the infamous Sunset Marquis hotel, which became a place for teenage exploration and hijinks when she got older.
In new documentary If These Walls Could Rock, Kelly’s mother Sharon revealed how the Osbournes would stay at the hotel each summer while Ozzy was touring the US, before they settled into their own home in Los Angeles.
Kelly recalled: “I had my first drink in this hotel. I had my first kiss in this hotel.
“I did my first line of cocaine in this hotel… which was given to me by one of my dad’s friends in a very, very, very big band, and I could never tell my parents because they would f****** kill him.”
Sharon revealed Ozzy, who died aged 76 in July 2025, loved being able to keep up the “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll’ lifestyle at the hotel.
She said: “He would love it here because he could wander. He could wander around outside in the garden. In those days he’d smoke.”
He’d get to known other guests at the hotel, making it feel like “you were in your own home with a lot of friends”.
Kelly described the Sunset Marquis as “the only hotel that my dad could stay in, at the time, where my dad could be himself”.
She admitted: “We’d be kicked out of everywhere, but not the Sunset Marquis. My dad could misbehave politely here.”
ZZ Top legend Billy Gibbons spent time with Ozzy at the hotel, and recalled one night in particular which would go down in history.
He said: “Ozzy Osbourne happened to be at the pool at the Marquis. He signalled me over… and he knew about a restaurant called Le Pirate.
“At the end of the night, you would toss a glass, and he said, ‘Maybe we should make that part of the Marquis.'”
The Gimme All Your Loving rock star pointed out that lots of people were walking around without shoes, but Ozzy still decided to smash his glass, which pursued others to do the same.
Billy remembered: “Within 30 seconds, every glass that had been surrounding the pool was now in shatters.
“And it became so dangerous that nobody could leave, so the party went on until the wee hours.
“That’s the kind of s*** that happens at the Marquis.”
