Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has revealed what every model is thinking when they walk the runway.
The 39-year-old model used to be a regular on the catwalks but this week she found herself on the front row watching the Burberry spring 27 show during London Fashion Week in her role as an ambassador for the brand and she admits it’s totally different to being part of the event and she now watches the models with “a lot of empathy”.
She told Vogue: “It’s a very different experience. I spent so many years on the other side of it that I know exactly what’s happening backstage – the nerves, the fittings, the waiting around, and then suddenly you’re pushed onto a runway, and it’s over in about thirty seconds.
“So I watch models with a lot of empathy! I notice the walk, the clothes, how something moves on the body.
“But I also really enjoy being able to sit there and take in the whole collection, because as a model you rarely get to do that. You’re usually concentrating on not falling over and remembering where your exit is.”
Rosie also revealed she’s looking forward to the changing seasons because she loves dressing for autumn now the sunny days are coming to an end.
She explained: “I’m English! I think autumn is in my DNA. I love that first moment when the air changes and you can put a proper coat on again. Boots, knitwear, leather jackets, fires going at home, long Sunday lunches.
“I’m much more comfortable dressing for autumn and winter than I am for high summer.”
Rosie also revealed she’s looking forward to spending more time at home with her husband Jason Statham and their son Jack, adding: “After such a busy year, I’m really looking forward to being at home more, being with my family and settling into that slightly slower rhythm that comes with the colder months”.
Rosie has been working with Burberry over the last few years and has appeared in a number of campaigns for the brand, and she insists she feels closely connected to its British heritage.
She added of British style: “I also think the British are very good at looking as though we haven’t tried too hard. There’s usually something slightly undone or irreverent about the way we dress, even when we’re dressed beautifully.”
