Kristen Bell: Make-up is not about concealment

Movie star Kristen Bell insists make-up shouldn’t be about concealment.

Kristen Bell has taught her daughters that make-up is “not about concealment”.

The 46-year-old actress has daughters Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11, with husband Dax Shepard, and Kristen has revealed that she’s been trying to teach her kids that make-up is about creativity, not concealment.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kristen shared: “I feel like I came to this conclusion a couple years ago when my girls started wanting to experiment with like make-up and appearances.

“I thought, ‘I need to frame this well,’ so I said, you know what, ‘Make-up and dressing and fashion, it’s about, it’s not about concealment, it’s about creativity.’

“And for some reason when I taught that to them, I also finally heard it for the first time myself.”

The discussion prompted Kristen and Drew to both remove their make-up mid-conversation.

The Frozen star also admitted to taking inspiration from Drew’s approach to life.

She said: “You were the inspiration for me suggesting this, because there’s no other show you could do this on.”

Kristen has become more comfortable with posting make-up-free photos on social media in recent years.

The movie star suggested that too much attention is paid to relatively minor things in life.

She explained: “I’m certainly not gonna stop and do a full beat in order to take an Instagram photo or put something out on social media.

“For me, it’s just like I wasn’t born with make-up on. I’ll survive if I post something on social media without make-up on, and I want other girls to feel — [or] anybody to feel — that it’s not mandatory.”

Kristen revealed that Dax, 51, has encouraged their daughters to experiment with their own style.

The actress – who has been married to the actor since 2013 – shared: “Dax is a very no-shame person in general.

“I think because he’s had to deal with getting sober and that in and of itself is really understanding what shame is and how it can, like, damage a personality, and he’s so supportive with what the girls like do or wanna be.”
