Jane Seymour says she has no plans to leave her beloved Malibu home despite the ongoing risk of wildfires, insisting the community and natural beauty make it the only place she wants to live.
Jane Seymour has no plans to move from her beloved California, despite the risk of wildfires.
The former Bond actress, who hails from Middlesex, England, has resided in her $3.4 million Malibu mansion since 1994, and she wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the world.
She told the New York Post’s Page Six column: “I honestly travel the world, and there is something magical about where we live [in Malibu] and the community we’re in.
“And I’ve been here a very long time, and I will always support this community.”
The 75-year-old star, who confirmed her engagement to musician John Zambetti in June, has taken precautions to ensure her home and garden are as fireproof as possible.
She shared: “Quite a long time ago, I ripped out everything in my garden that was not going to be drought healthy and also that would not ignite.
“I’ve been really, really careful about all that, and I had the fire department here telling me what I should and shouldn’t do, and I did everything I possibly could do, but it’s also the luck of the draw.”
She continued: “I hope and pray that my house will be here for a very long time.”
Praising the fire department in her area, she said: “And I think we’ve personally been through at least half a dozen fires. I’m incredibly grateful to the fire department that ultimately helped us as well. When you live in a place that’s close to nature, you just have to have respect for it.”
And asked if she would ever leave Los Angeles, she responded: “No. It’s the most beautiful place and the community here is wonderful.”
Jane’s fiancé actually proposed at her Malibu home, but it didn’t quite go to plan.
John told PEOPLE: “I got down on my knees, the whole thing. I had the ring hidden in the safe, pulled out the ring. I opened the box, and the ring popped out of the box, onto the bed. Then I had to climb under the bed, and then I couldn’t get out, and she had to get out of the bed and pull me out of the bed.”
Jane then chimed in: “And we weren’t wearing any clothes!”
She added that while there was some “serious bedhead involved”, the funniest bit was that “he couldn’t get up afterwards”.
Jane laughed: “His knee was now stuck from being under the bed and I’m not strong enough to pull him up because he weighs almost twice what I do. “We looked at one another and started laughing hysterically.”
