Former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jennie Garth has recalled the devastating moment she knew her marriage to Twilight actor Peter Facinelli was over, and the star told how she “could have died” just moments later after passing out in a hotel room.
Jennie Garth has recalled the devastating moment she knew her marriage to Peter Facinelli was over.
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star and the Twilight actor were married from 2001 until 2013, and Jennie will never forget a brutally honest message from their couple’s counselling therapist that made her realise she and Peter had to go their separate ways.
Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, she said: “We sat down and honestly two minutes into it she said, ‘Jenny, why would you want to love someone when they don’t love you? Why would you love someone when they don’t love you? Why would you love someone who doesn’t love you?’
“Like, it’s echoing, I’ll never forget it…That just gutted me. And I was like, ‘Yeah. No s**t. Give up. It’s time.’ “
Jennie left the session in such an emotional state that the marriage therapist and Peter – who she has daughters Luca, 28, Lola, 23, and 19-year-old Fiona with – got in a car and went looking for her, only to find the star and take her to a hotel.
She recalled: “He’s in the passenger seat, and I’m talking, walking, angry, crying, all the things, just like out of my mind.
“They are just like kind of keeping up with me in the car and saying, ‘Get in the car, you know, let’s let us take you to a hotel. Jen, come on, get in the car.’ Like a friend.
“And I was like, ‘Why would I get in your car? What, what, no!’
“But somehow they got me in the car. And then they took me to a hotel, took us to a hotel. He checked in separately and I was like, ‘Well I guess I’ll check in and that was the parting moment.’ “
However, it was nearly one of her final moments in life.
Jennie went on to mix alcohol with medication before blacking out, and she woke up in hospital.
She said: “I passed out on the floor and I had my best friend on the phone with me, I think while that was happening. So she knew I was in danger.”
The star admitted she “could have died” in the hotel room if it was not for her friend realising she was in serious danger.
Speaking about it being hard to recall the event, she added: “I think this shame really came from letting the girls down and from being a bad mom by letting myself go to that place.
“I could have died in that hotel room.”
