Julia Stiles regrets not wearing sunscreen during her younger years.

The 45-year-old actress – who shot to stardom in the late 90s – has revealed that she wishes she did more to protect her skin in her younger years.

In a video filmed in partnership with the beauty brand Merit, Julia explained that she comes from “a long line of women who appreciated natural beauty”.

The movie star continued: “That being said, we can all use a little…” Julia then pointed at her face, as she discussed her skincare routine.

The actress explained: “Note to my 20-year-old self: Always wear sunscreen. Why didn’t you wear sunscreen? Why? Why were you sitting in the sun at peak hours of the day for so long?

“Now, you see it. There’s this funny window of time when you’re in your 30s — I should say me, when I was in my 30s, where I was like, ‘Oh my god, the acne’s gone, my skin is so clear.’ And then, two seconds later, boom! Here come the wrinkles.

“But that’s okay. We should be lucky to grow old and have wrinkles.”

Julia previously admitted that she used to struggle with the intense focus on her appearance amid her rise to stardom.

The actress claimed that the scrutiny was actually the toughest part of being a young star in Hollywood.

Julia – who starred in movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, Down to You, and Save the Last Dance around the turn of the century – told IntoTheGloss: “People have this misconception that actors are good liars. I think we’re actually really good truth tellers. A good actor is empathetic and observant, which I’d like to think I am.

“The focus on physical appearances is actually the hardest part of this job. I definitely learn a lot from makeup artists. Then, being in different countries helps. What they sell in pharmacies and drugstores here in New York versus France or London is very different.”
