Julianne Moore to receive Women in Motion Award at Cannes Film Festival

Julianne Moore will be honoured with Kering’s Women in Motion Award at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

Julianne Moore will be honoured with Kering’s Women in Motion Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 65-year-old actress will be recognised by the luxury goods firm at a gala event on 27 May in honour of her contributions to cinema and advocacy for gender representation within the film industry.

Kering chair François-Henri Pinault said: “Julianne Moore fully embodies the spirit of Women in Motion. Through the consistency of her artistic choices, the depth and complexity she brings to her performances, and her long-standing dedication to advancing meaningful representation both on and off screen, she has helped redefine what it means to be a leading woman in cinema.”

The May December actress – who is a brand ambassador for Kering’s Bottega Veneta – is “genuinely grateful” for the accolade.

She said in her own statement: “I’m genuinely grateful for this recognition from Kering and the Festival de Cannes. Being part of Women in Motion’s legacy is incredibly meaningful to me.

“I’ve always believed that visibility matters, that the stories we choose to tell can widen the space for women, and for a richer diversity of voices, both on screen and behind the camera.”

In addition, Italian director and screenwriter Margherita Spampinato will receive a 50,000 euro grant to support her next piece of work as part of her prize when she receives the Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award for her film Gioia Mia.

Meanwhile, Julianne – who has son Caleb, 28, and daughter Liv, 24, with her husband Bart Freundlich – recently admitted she never switches off completely and even when she’s having a day off to relax, she still likes to find the time for a “little bit of work”.

In an interview with People magazine, she said: “I like a little bit of everything.

“A perfect day is not having to get up too early and drink my coffee, and read the news and answer my emails.

“Then I would also have time maybe to do some yoga and then have dinner with my family, and then watch something that I enjoy and go to bed.”

Adding that she can’t help but fit in “a little bit of work”, the Still Alice actress said: “Maybe I shoot something or I’m working on a script, or I’m learning something.”
