Sabrina Carpenter harked back to classic Hollywood with her outfit at the Met Gala on Monday (04.05.26).
Sabrina Carpenter’s Met Gala look was inspired by Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn.
The Espresso hitmaker appeared on the red carpet at the glamorous New York fashion event on Monday (04.05.26) in a Jonathan Anderson-designed Dior high-neck halter gown covered with film strips and explained that it paid homage to the 1954 rom-com Sabrina – which starred Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.
In a clip shared on TikTok, Sabrina said: “It is film! It’s all made of film, which is my dream.
“Jonathan Anderson, the genius that he is, and Dior, the whole team is so, I can’t even express my love and gratitude for them. We just finished all of my Coachella looks together and then they hopped right into making this dream dress and Jared Ellner, my stylist, we put it all together and it’s amazing.
“It’s from the movie Sabrina, which is one of my favourite movies of all time.”
Sabrina’s dress – which was accentuated with rhinestones in recognition of the Met Gala’s ‘Fashion is Art’ theme – was particularly poignant as the annual event fell on what would have been the late Breakfast at Tiffany’s star’s (who died aged 63 in 1993) 97th birthday.
Meanwhile, the Manchild artist also served on the Met Gala’s host committee alongside stars such as Zoe Kravitz and Sam Smith and appeared on stage later in the evening – performing a number of her own hits as well as joining Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks for a rendition of the rock band’s track Landslide.
Sabrina treated those in attendance to several costume changes, as she initially took to the stage in a 2018 Versace Tribute dress featuring Andy Warhol’s prints of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean before later wearing a fringed golden Bob Mackie dress.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old pop star confessed last month that she struggled to find clothes that fit her because of her diminutive stature.
In an interview with fashion designer Marc Jacobs for Perfect magazine, Sabrina explained: “I’m the shortest person ever. So my initial relationship with fashion was sort of in distress.
“The day I realised what tailoring is changed my life. In terms of what made me feel the most confident, it was an altered outfit, making it feel like it works really well on my body.”
